The Shandon PapSpin™ Liquid-based Gynaecological Test is the clear choice for ease, efficiency, and the pure economics of Pap test methodology.  It's compatible with the Cytospin®, a highly reliable instrument found in laboratories worldwide.

Worldwide, approximately 500,000 new cases of cervical cancer are reported each year with nearly half of the diagnoses resulting in death. Screening with the Pap smear has significantly reduced the mortality rate, but not eradicated it. Studies show that the method of specimen preparation following collection may significantly compromise detection of disease.Compared to a conventional smear, the Shandon PapSpin™ liquidbased cytology system provides greater accuracy, ease of use, and better results every time.Shandon PapSpin advantages:

In the office – a simpler process:
  • Shandon PapSpin vial is labeled with patient identification.
  • Traditional cervical cell collection with "broom" device.
  • Tip deposited in collection vial containing preservative fluid.
  • Vial is sent to lab for processing.
In the laboratory – an improved process:
  • Using a Shandon EZ Megafunnel™ Cell Transfer Chamber with Coated Slide, a randomized sample of cells from the collection vial is deposited by cytocentrifugation onto a glass slide.
  • Results in a clearly defined 22 x 14.75 mm screening area with uniform distribution.
  • Slides are stained with the traditional Papanicolaou method.
